On 8th March 2018 Grade 5 students celebrated their learning journey during their PYP years by doing their PYP Exhibition 2018. Under the transdisciplinary theme of “How We Organize Ourselves”, the students were driving their inquiry into the interconnectedness of human-made systems and communities; the structure and function of organizations; societal decision-making; economic activities and their impact on humankind. The topics of learning were taken from cases that happened in the students’ daily lives.
The students went through the inquiry cycle of learning, in order to achieve their learning goals. They tuned in to various issues happened around them. They visited and found the information from the experts, sorting out all the information, making the connection, going further and taking action in their communities. The students ran an organization where the aim was to solve the problems happening around them. The organizations were set up in groups in order solve the problems such as raising awareness of how to reduce gadget addiction, how to have healthier snacks, how to increase economic benefits from waste materials, how to develop the literacy skills, how to SBR’s 11th Spelling Bee Competition Committee raise the awareness of local people to conserve and protect the river, how to educate people about how to organize plastic waste into ecobricks, and many more interesting and engaging topics were presented.
